Less than a day

Less than a day until the final episode of season two of Game of Thrones airs on Sky Atlantic here in the UK. Up until now I have watched the previous episode again before each new one, but since episode nine, Blackwater, skipped most of the plot lines that will be visited in the finale it seems more appropriate to watch episode eight again.

New Switch

So I wanted to connect my SKY HD box to the internet to receive the SKY Anytime+ service. I already had a Homeplug behind the home theatre setup providing a connection for the NAS.

So I got this.

Eco-friendly cardboard packaging.

Very small.

All wired up and running.

The wiring behind the TV is a little much.

Two HDMI cables, three ethernet cables, 6 pairs of speaker cables for the 5.1 surround sound, a phone cable, two coaxial cables to the dish, a TOS optical audio link, a stereo feed from the HTIB to the wireless headphone base, three mains power leads and three DC power supply leads. Probably something I forgot.

A Dance With Dragons (Speculation) SPOILERS

I made a good guess in this old post (warning SPOILERS). Except

the character who seems to get killed off near the end may turn out to be magically saved in the next volume. So in fact there wasn’t a death of a major character after all. But we won’t know for a couple of years.

So, a shout out for Game of Thrones on The Secret Circle! Am I the only person who noticed that, or are my ears broken?

Season two has begun and is even better than season one. Today it was announced that the show had won a Peabody award. No news on renewal yet though.

Something in the Air

Every year some new TV shows come out that seem based on very similar ideas. This year I noticed that Ringer and The Lying Game have rather similar concepts. Separated identical twins (played by the same actress), one rich one poor, swap places. One disappears and the poor sister attempts to find out what’s going on while impersonating the rich sister. More or less.

Grimm and Once Upon A Time both bring fairy tales into the real world but in rather different ways.

A Game of Thrones

After the awesome finale of the TV show Game of Thrones I started rereading the books to get up to speed for the fifth volume which comes out in a few weeks. So far on rereading for the first time after nearly five years it’s remarkable how closely the TV series hewed to the first book, A Game of Thrones. Lines of dialogue were lifted exactly from the book, and many others just shortened a little.

Much closer than any other adaptation I can think of, and the better for it.

Lord Snow

Three episodes into the first season of HBO’s adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire and I’m a little annoyed because it’s making most of the other shows I watch seem shallow and shoddy. The good thing is that the episodes are so good I can rewatch them a few times 🙂

Game of Thrones

I watched the first episode of Game of Thrones last night. It’s been a while since I read the books so I can’t comment on small inaccuracies, but overall it seemed a remarkably good adaptation. I hope the show achieves sufficiently good ratings for season two to be made.

Discussion of the show here and here and here.

[Edit]

And after just one episode has aired HBO has picked up a second season of the show!
