A song of Ice and Fire

I ordered A Game of Thrones and A Clash of Kings from Amazon on 29 October 2006. I must have started reading them within a few days and decided to keep on going as I ordered the remainder of the series then in print on 15th November 2006 and read straight through to the end of A Feast for Crows. So when my preordered copy of A Dance With Dragons comes in mid July it’ll be about four and a half years since I finished my first read-through of the previous volumes.

I’ll have to read them all again first.

Lord Snow

Three episodes into the first season of HBO’s adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire and I’m a little annoyed because it’s making most of the other shows I watch seem shallow and shoddy. The good thing is that the episodes are so good I can rewatch them a few times 🙂

Game of Thrones

I watched the first episode of Game of Thrones last night. It’s been a while since I read the books so I can’t comment on small inaccuracies, but overall it seemed a remarkably good adaptation. I hope the show achieves sufficiently good ratings for season two to be made.

Discussion of the show here and here and here.

[Edit]

And after just one episode has aired HBO has picked up a second season of the show!

A Dance With Dragons

A Dance With Dragons now has a publication date. And the TV series starts in April. I’ll have to reread a few thousand pages before starting Dance or I won’t be able to follow it. And I still have the Patrick Rothfuss sequel to read. And I’ll need to reread the first one of those too 🙂

The Girl Who Played With Fire

I see the UK release of the movie, the second in the trilogy, has moved two weeks earlier to 27 August from 10 September. So that’s nice 🙂 I guess the third part will now be released earlier too.

Perseus Books, which also represents 330 smaller publishers, has signed on to have its electronic books distributed through Apple’s iBookstore.[From Apple inks iPad deal with largest independent publisher]

I welcome a deal that allows authors to make a living from their work. Goodbye freetard economics.

I saw the Swedish film yesterday and it was very well done. The next two parts are due in the UK in September and November and I’m now looking forward to them keenly.

HBO: ‘Games of Thrones’ dailies ‘fantastic’

HBO is stoked about how ‘Thrones’ is coming together… [From HBO: ‘Games of Thrones’ dailies ‘fantastic’]

They’ll run out of books in the series if GRRM doesn’t speed up a little. But I am looking forward to seeing this if it gets greenlit.

“For the eleventh time, Inkwell rings in the New Year with a visit from Bruce Sterling, to address the State of the World and Things Various and Sundry…” Always good fun. [From Bruce Sterling’s State Of The World 2010]
