The Artist

Today I saw The Artist and it was good. Very entertaining. I don’t think there was any more to it than that despite some weird theories on the internet, but being entertaining is my number one criterion for a film so I have to rate it highly. And cute dog.

Haywire

Saw Haywire today. Gina Carano is a credible action star and the rest of the stellar cast comported themselves skilfully. The plot and the script are a bit perfunctory, simply sketching in motivation for the bone-crunching and convincing action scenes. I was the only person in the screening, on the last day of the film at that complex. Underworld: Awakening (3D) is back for another week.

Underworld: Awakening (3D)

More action, less mythology. Kate Beckinsale still brings it. Better than the third one. 3D doesn’t add much. Clearly looking for another sequel if this one is successful.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Today I saw the David Fincher version of the film of the book. I think it is slightly better than the Swedish version although I still prefer Noomi Rapace’s take on Lisbeth Salandar to Rooney Mara’s.

Album of the year, 2011

Last year it was this. This year I liked

Straight Line Stitch - Fight Of Our Lives

best. And I saw them play live and they rocked.

Lacuna Coil & Straight Line Stitch, Aberdeen

Saw Lacuna Coil and Straight Line Stitch at the Lemon Tree. Doors 7:30, I got a front centre standing position at the barrier. 8:30 Straight Line Stitch came on and played an energetic half-hour set. It was being filmed. Alexis Brown was in good form, singing well and bouncing around the cramped stage area like a spring. Near enough to touch (as some people on either side of me did). 9:00 and Lacuna Coil came on and played for an hour before taking the encore break. Then back on until 10:30. Or thereabouts. They had more stage room and slightly better sound than SLS (as usual for the headliner). Cristina Scabbia is very tiny.

The old one died (the scanner couldn’t read any barcodes) so it got replaced with this one:
